What the best type of pratice Bokken?
I’m considering buying a bokken (pratice Samurai Sword via katana). I’ve looked all over the web and have found hundreds of stores that sell them, some really cheap, others really high. I don’t plan on spending more than 25-30 dollars for one (since its just for solo pratice).
I’m considering white oak. I’m just going to be solo practicing, but i’d also like one can stand getting hit a little.
White oak is o.k., but is a little light. If you want something for contact – applachian hickory is good, but not cheap. If contact is required, but the bokuto does not have to be “sword shaped” then chinese wax wood is great.
Heavier denser woods are generally more expensive – typically 60 – 100 bucks, but better for solo work as they are closer to real sword weight.
