Where was a cutlass stored in a british soldier’s (redcoat) uniform?
I’m doing a school project on the Boston Massacre and I was wondering where the cutlass (sword/knife) was stored on their uniform. Was it a place where the cutlass could easily come out? Or was it pretty hard to take their cutlasses out? And plus, did soldiers wear their full uniform on Saturdays? Please cite your reference!
P.S. Could it fall out easily if they had been pushed, or would they have to take it out themselves?
a cutlass or Short Sword was carried in a sheath attached to the waist with a sash or belt. it was easy accessible.
British military had only their uniform year round. the Boston militia would have been lucky to have even one officer with insignia or identification never mind looking for full uniforms.
