Is the sword stuck or is it a moulded fake?
I bought a Samurai Sword a few days ago and it appears to be stuck in the scabbard. I was wondering if maybe i’d been had by the ebay seller that sold it ot me, however if tapped you can hear something bounce inside. So i am assuming it is stuck and not a fake, hopefully.
Any tips on how to get it out?
There could be a few reasons for this. Some are not what you may want to hear.
1, It could be rusted in place, this is bad.
2, The could be to tight as someone said already display swords are frequently tight in the scabbard. Not so bad
3, Some Asian manufacturers still use a thick hard grease to protect the Sword Blade from rusting. This is a god thing.
In any case try to bruit force it out . Careful not to hurt yourself or bystanders. If it is grease that has hardened up use hot soapy water to clean the blade. dry and use a light oil to protect from rust. wipe the blade every time you handle it. Don’t over oil it it will make a mess of the handle and scabbard.
If it is rusted fine steel wool and a good penetrating oil, followed by polishing with pumice and light machine oil, clean well and light wipe after handeling to prevent rust.
