Monster Cables. Excessive?
I recently got a good deal on a monster cable sub woofer cord. originally a 25 dollar or more cord, i got it for 10. Im reading the package and it sounds just like wow, these guys are really trying to sell. So do the double brass shielded, Gold Plated cables really do anything noticeable? and dont say “yes, in theory” or “i like them because im a geek and i think expensive things are good” if you really think its worth it, why? and dont tell me what the box said “the gold plated contacts allow excellent sound transfer!” yeah okaaaay so why is it better than regular ones?

For the same reason BOSE is “better”, their marketing department is very very good at what it does, and has managed to convince the general public of the superiority of their product. Any sufficiently heavy gauge stranded wire will produce results completely indistinguishable from Monster Cable. A friend of mine, a mentor of sorts, once set up 2 identical systems. The only difference was the cable. Not even the sales rep from Monster was able to identify the system using his cable. Much to his embarrassment, he picked the system using the WestPenn wire as the better sounding one. In theory, Monster should be the best. But in practice, the range of human hearing is not capable of discerning the difference. Only your dog knows for sure.
