How do you put an archer bow onto your back to sheath it like Legolas in Lord of The Rings?

I am LARP’ing and I am going to be using a bow and a couple of elven swords for close quarters combat. Anyway, beside my nerdyness, how do people put bows onto their backs when they aren’t using them? I just want to know so i can finally get on with my life x.x .. anyway, I would really appreciate it if anyone could reply if you know. Thanks!

I’m not sure how Legolas did it, either (and I have and watch the DVDs every chance I get), but I do know that if the string happens to catch on anything it could result in a useless bow. Even for a “LARPer”.

The Mongols (and Huns, Tartars, Turks, Avars, etc) used a specially made “sheath” for their bows, slung at their sides. If you are using a recurve bow, and do not wish to/do not have time to unstring the bow, this would be the most efficient way to carry it while employing another weapon. Native Americans — at least those known as “Plains Indians” — also used a “sheath” for their bows, but the bow was unstrung.

As stated by targetbutt, it is possible to carry a longbow by “slinging” it accross your back, but it can be rather difficult to breathe — especially when you are engaging in close-quarters “combat”. And even a longbow will dig into your back after a while, unless you happen to have a LOT of padding on your back.

I know this, because I have tried it.
