What country/civilaization founded/built the knights templar?
Im looking everywhere and nothing can tell me who and at the same time give me a paragraph info about it!
The Knights Templar were an order of knights that had no particular national allegiance. They were formed answering to the Pope’s call for help after The First Crusade to protect the pilgrims traveling to the freed Jerusalem.They were made up of men from all over Europe and the Holy Land.
There were other such orders like The Knights of Malta.
True many of the original Templars were Normans from England.
They recognized the authority of the Pope and sovereignty of The King of Jerusalem but were otherwise an entity unto themselves being by papal order exempt from local laws,taxes and able to cross borders unchallenged.
Pilgrims could leave their valuables with Order representatives in Europe and be credited later on arrival in The Holy Land. This is seen as the first bank check system.
