Knife Battle Grade
What do you do when someone you know starts cutting?

these two girls in my homeroom are best friends and share everything, and i have no idea why, but all of the sudden they both have started cutting. I’m sure there’s a reason, but i really can’t understand why. They try to keep it a secret but sometimes (since i’m in most of their classes) i hear them saying “yeah i’ll try a knife tonight” or see them pointing to all of their self-inflicted wounds. One of them is very popular, and i really don’t understand why she does it. The other has been battling self-image problems since sixth grade, and has been having some problems at home.

please help me to understand why they do this and how to help them stop. They arn’t my best friends, and i don’t want to sound too pushy. One of the teachers knows about this, and has been helping one of the girls with her problems recently, but dosn’t know about the other one.

They way you describe it, the popular one is doing it for the attention. Its sad, but it’s pretty common. Don’t give her the attention she craves. It will only make things worse.

The other one thinks it makes her like the popular girl, thinking that people will pay attention to her if she acts like the idiot popular girl. If the popular girl smoked crack, the other one would be talking about how big of a rock she was going to smoke when she got home.

tl;dr – they’re idiots. They both want attention.
