What happened to King Solomon’s 200 Golden Shields?
After Shisak sacked the city and took all of Solomon’s treasures, what happened to the original 200 golden shields (not the bronze ones that Shishak replaced them with)? I’ve been researching it and I can’t find anything about the HISTORY about the shields themselves. Anything would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
I don’t think that you will be able to find any information on these shields. Shisak is generally identified as the Egyptian king Shoshenq I ( 943–922 BCE), who led a major campaign into Palestine.
The campaign is commemorated in a fragmented stela in Karnak and lists of cities in Palestine conquered by Shoshenq I / Shishak can be found on the walls of the temples of Karnak and al Hibeh. Unfortunately, these texts have been damaged, and there is no mention of Jerusalem in the surviving inscriptions. There is no mention of “golden shields” in what remains of the Egyptian records of Shoshenq’s campaign.
