what is the difference between the katana and the shinken ?
Katana – A general term for a Japanese Sword (nihontō) with a curved blade around two to three shaku long, worn with the blade up in the obi. This term is sometimes incorrectly used as a generic name for any kind of Japanese sword.
Shinken – General term used when discussing a sharpened metal sword. Usually only used by very experienced iaidō-ka during practice.
