-WWII Question- Japanese soldiers in ETO?
I recently finished reading a book written by a member of the 101st Airborne during the second world war. It was a first hand account of what he did during Operation Overlord. He stated that he and another soldier had killed and positively identified a Japanese Officer in France. He was in full Japanese Uniform. Supposedly, this occured regularly throughout the campaign. Now Im an avid historian, but I have never heard of a Japanese Soldier in the European Theater of Operations. The only reason I can think the Jap was there was to aid the Germans in camouflaging their defenses. So he was there as an adviser…
Any ideas as to why this was? or how? Have you ever heard of this? Have you seen any Official Reports of this?
I don’t know about a Japanese one, I’d imagine they had military attaches and observers which would be standard practise.
I do know of Koreans who fought for Germany in the war and were captured by Americans.
Apparently they were conscripted in the the Japanese Army in the mid 30’s then fought the Russian in 1939 where they were captured, the Russian they put them in their army were they were then captured by the germans, who then put them in to their army, finally this guys were captured by the americans. apparently after the war the americans sent them home to korea, where upon they would probably have ended up in one army or another in the korean war of 1950
