Why is carrying a concealed knife a felony, while illegally carrying a concealed firearm is a misdemeanor?
I was told that if a person was found carrying a concealed knife (Dirk,Switchblade etc) it is a felony. However, if a person was found illegally carrying a firearm, than it is a misdemeanor charge.
Is that true? Because it doesn’t make sense to me, are not hidden guns more dangerous?

Gonna go with what I think you’re talking about here:
12020 PC makes it a felony to carry a dirk or dagger concealed upon the person.
12025 PC makes it a misdemeanor (generally) to carry a concealed firearm on the person.
So why is that?
I have no idea. I have a theory, though:
Many of our penal code sections are from WAAAY back in the day…like the wild, wild, west way back in the day.
Back then it was acceptable to carry a firearm on your person – even one that was concealed. It was known by all that people carried guns both openly and concealed and was not a problem.
But then there were the sneaky, good-for-nothings that carried pointy knives on their person. The kind of people who could sidle up next to you and stick that thing straight into your heart without so much as a “reach for the sky, pardner.”
So it became that carrying a concealed firearm was only a misdemeanor because we’d all “grown up” with that, and carrying a concealed dagger was just downright dirty and was a felony.
I really have no way of knowing if that’s true, but it’s how I’ve answered the question for myself all these years and it makes sense to me.
