where did the sword makers of Burma and the surrounding countries get the iron for making steel?
The japanese sword smiths smelted and refined BLACK SAND. iron bearing sand that was naturally occouring.
There are mining operations all over SE Asia. Myanmar has some ore deposits, but mining is big business and the country is still under embargo. I don’t think they made all those attacks on the old Kingdom of Siam with wooden clubs, so they must have smelted whatever metals were available. Also note that the old Burma is one of the trading routes on the old Silk Highway.
