Bearded Norse Viking
Bearded Norse Viking

Why is this considered racist?
I am of Norwegian, Scottish decent.(Both sides of grandparents came to america in the late 1800’s) I live in a small Urban area. However, when I show pride in my viking heritage (tattoo, shirt, jewelry) I have been called a nazi or a white supremisist. I am not racist in anyway , shape or form and have friends of other races (asian and african american). I have a medium sized norse style beard, and i keep my hair in a ponytail. Yet I have been asked in public “What are you some kind of Nazi or something? )
I am really disturbed about this. I am no where close to be a racist, yet if I show pride in my heritage im dubbed that? Yet if Muslim African American walks around wearing African” style clothing, its considered ok?
Why is it ok to be proud of a Asian, African, or Middle Eastern heritage, but if you show European Pride its racist, considering there is no hint of negativity toward other races?
Good question. It’s not the actual clothing in itself that is the problem. It’s the connotations attached to it. I’m sure you are aware, as a Norwegian yourself, of the ideologies that Hitler used during the 1930’s to claim that the Aryans and Nordics were the “ubermensch” (desirables or “super-humans”) whilst Africans, Jews and Slavs as the “undermensch”. It’s like the Swastika. Many Americans, if not 95% of them, automatically assume that Hitler invented the Swastika for his own betterment. Little do the uneducated masses know that the Swastika was and is a religious symbol that has existed for thousands of years.
It’s the ideology that anything Communistic or Nordic in essence, is an enemy. It’s what they have done to the Muslims as well. They purport all of them to be terrorists! If showing one’s Viking heritage is racist, then such is the same with watching Superman, which was based on the postmodernist philosophies of Frederich Nietzsche in which the “Aryan” is the supreme being.
